Gilmer Church of the Nazarene

Our Mission:

We exist to make Disciples:

To glorify God by

introducing people to the love of Jesus,

to guide their steps into

a lifestyle of holiness

and to nurture them toward growth

into the fullness of Christ.

Our Vision:

Before this decade is over

we will introduce ten percent

of the unchurched of

Upshur County

to the Love of Jesus.

Our Passions

Our passions all reflect who we are, what we believe and what is important to us.

Four passions drive us as a church.

1. Three dimensional love - This love is the love Jesus commanded us to have. It is the type of unconditional love that is described in scripture, is only available from God and is given freely to all who have totally surrendered their lives to Him. The three dimensions are:

First, love for God. We express this love by being obedient to God and all He calls us to do. We also express this love through worship and adoration. Second, it is love for each other. This love sets us apart from the world. It is expressed in many ways but is also obvious by the absence of gossiping, slander, criticism and quarrels. Third, it is love for everyone around us. We express this love in practical ways such as being helpful and caring, and also by bringing people to the love of Jesus.

2. Prayer - This passion reminds us that prayer is the key to all spiritual success and power. When we pray we influence the power of God. Our prayers result in changed lives. Physical healing and spiritual healing are the result of prayers of faith. Prayer must be central to every part of our personal lives and every ministry of the church.

3. Biblical Teaching and Preaching - We do not use popular books or current trends as our guide to what we believe. We don't change our doctrine to fit our culture. We are unapologetic about our desire to learn all that God has for us through His word! It is the Bible that provides us with the guide we need for all of life.

4. Spiritual Growth - Every Christian is to be a growing Christian. We do all we can to provide people with opportunities for spiritual growth. Resources are readily available to help people and we are consistently expanding spiritual growth opportunities. Sunday School, Family Night, Sunday Night and Sunday morning Worship all offer chances for spiritual growth. Along with personal Bible study and reading, everyone should make every possible effort to be involved in as many spiritual growth opportunities the church has to offer.
